The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the USDA published the new Dietary Guidelines for Americans last month.  The goal of these guidelines is to promote overall health and to prevent chronic disease.  The most significant finding for the coffee industry from these guidelines is that the HHS and USDA committee recommend moderate coffee consumption (3-5 cups per day) to reduce the overall risk of Type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.  There also possible protection associated with coffee consumption for those at risk for Parkinson's disease.
